New Year, New You?
BUMPS FOR BOOMERS Partners with Younger Next Year Authors and Aspen Club and Spa to Kick Off 2010 with Younger Next Year Total Immersion Week
Week-long intensive seminar teaches boomers and seniors how to achieve total physical and emotional wellness(Aspen, Co., December 8, 2009) – Boomers and seniors resolving to live a younger, more active lifestyle can make good on their New Year’s resolutions by taking part in the Younger Next Year Total Immersion Week from January 31 – February 6, 2010 in Aspen, Colo. The intense, interactive week-long retreat will be hosted by the Aspen Club and Spa and in partnership with BUMPS FOR BOOMERS ® and authors—Chris Crowley and Dr. Harry Lodge—of The New York Times national best-selling Younger Next Year books. Aligned with the same mission of encouraging lifestyle modifications to improve personal longevity, the retreat partners along with other health and wellness experts will show participants how to turn back their biological clocks by engaging in practices that achieve total physical and emotional wellness.
The Younger Next Year Total Immersion Week is designed to show men and women, age 50 or older, how they can become functionally younger every year for the next five to 10 years, and continue to live like 50-year-olds well into their 80s. Hosted at the Aspen Club and Spa, a high-altitude training facility specializing in the fundamental and advanced concepts of athletic performance, the series of daily sessions and activities will focus on fitness and nutrition, as well as physical and emotional rejuvenation.
“Sixty is the new forty,” said Crowley. “But, only if you work at it pretty hard,” said Crowley. “The Younger Next Year Total Immersion Week embodies this sentiment and is intended to immerse participants into the exercise, diet and emotional components that are the key to being younger next year.”
Highlights of the retreat will include:
- BUMPS FOR BOOMERS – the only mogul and powder skiing program in the United States that is designed by Baby Boomers, for Boomers, and taught by Boomers. The BUMPS FOR BOOMERS ski program targets the unique needs of Boomer skiers offering an alternative approach to the traditional, one-size-fits-all ski program.
For three days of the Younger Next Year Total Immersion Week, participants will be on the snow experiencing a new method to skiing that will enable them to confidently and safely ski off groomed runs and enjoy the entire mountain.
“As you age, your reflex speed and balance tend to decline,” said Joe Nevin, founder of BUMPS FOR BOOMERS. “We incorporate advanced training concepts that improve performance, increase balance and control, as well as reduce the risk of injury,” said Nevin. “Most significantly, the unique techniques learned don’t require the need for fast reflexes—that translates into skiing longevity.”
- Personal Training – Bill Fabrocini, Director of the Aspen Club Sports Performance Center world-class Aspen physical therapist and Dr. Riggs Klika, Executive Director of the Cancer Survivor Center of Health and Wellbeing in Aspen, Colo. and physiologist specializing in human development and aging, will teach practical techniques and provide participants with a deeper understanding of the mind-body connection. They will also highlight the importance of aerobic and strength training as you age.
- Culinary Principles – Retreat participants will dine on fresh Aspen delicacies while learning the importance of eating locally, organically and overall good nutrition as it relates to the aging process. Locally-renowned Chef Ryan Hardy of Montagna Restaurant at the Little Nell Hotel believes in the “slow food” movement that celebrates the bounty of the earth. He supplies his guests with the freshest ingredients sourcing the majority of the food from local farmers, ranchers, and his own 15-acre organic farm—Rendezvous Farms.
Exclusive to Aspen/Snowmass, Younger Next Year Total Immersion Week is offered for people age 50 and older. The cost of the week is $5,800 per person, $9,900 per couple and includes lodging at the famous historical Hotel Jerome, all meals, instructional sessions and seminars, as well as lift tickets and ski rentals for the BUMPS FOR BOOMERS ski clinics. The cost for Aspen residents is $4,000 (excluding lodging).
Other optional activities will include a breathtaking snow shoe hike through Hunter Creek Valley, rejuvenating yoga sessions and restorative spa treatments.
